Wink wink
This may seem odd coming from me - she who cannot handle nitpicking and spoilers - but I do really love it when the show does the occasional inside joke or nod to the fans. I don't know why. I'm weird like that I guess.
Anyway, I thought I'd mention a few that have occurred on 24 as recently as the last episode when Nina's passport flashed onscreen. If you look closely at it. The name on the passport is 'Sarah Berkeley'. 'Sarah', being the actress' real name and 'Berkeley' being her lovely and much missed hubby's last name: Xander Berkeley, AKA George Mason. Neat eh?
So I asked around the Net a little and found out there've been quite a few things like this on the show. Most of it are little things like character names or password nods to other shows the producers have worked on (In Season One, Milo's password he gave to Bob Ellis started with "LFN" for La Femme Nikita.) The character name 'Teddy Hanlin' (who badgered Jack as he waited to meet red baseball cap guy) was an assistant director on La Femme Nikita. Anne Coffell is a production coordinator on the show. And 'Mark DeSalvo', played by Lou Diamond Phillips, was named for someone who bid for it at an auction. This season, 'Larry Hertzog', the man whom Tony spoke to in episode one, wrote one of the first season scripts. And a man named David Milliken is a transportation coordinator for the show.
I think my favourite little joke (so far!) is from Season One. Nina is frantically deleting files so she can make her getaway. We see a quick shot of the computer screen and all sorts of images are flashing by. Slowing down that shot and we can see Kiefer kissing some weird stuffed animal and a crewmember wearing a '24' baseball cap. I like that. There are other images deleted in that scene as well, all crewmember shots. I've also been told that the weird stuffed animal Kiefer is snogging makes an appearance in various scenes throughout the show but I haven't been able to verify that yet. And I'd like to thank fwmom from the TWoP forums for the majority of the info above.
