What to do while 24 is on break.

Now on to the topic. I was perusing the Fox boards again and last night there were a plethora of very pissed off fans who signed up for the first time just to express their extreme anger about the show not being on right now. Apparently they've only just clued into that even though it's been common knowledge for weeks now. I felt sorry for them as they tuned in at 8pm to see what happened to Gael only to find yet another ridiculous FOX reality show called 'Forever Eden' - AKA Temptation Island Revamped. I felt their pain. But they were expressing their anger at FOX as if they'd been duped into believing 24 would be on.
So for posterity: There are something like 37 weeks in a normal television season. There are only 24 episodes of 24 (duh). In order to have the show end during May sweeps, they have to build in these breaks. Admittedly the timing of this particular break sucks ass since 24 just won Best Drama at the Globes and Kiefer just won Best Actor at the SAGs, but the suits can't foresee those sorts of things back in the fall before the show has even aired when they are planning the breaks. Anyway, every major network in the states sends their shows on breaks throughout the season - it's nothing new but I think what makes it particularly hard for 24 fans is that FOX does not air repeats while the show is on a break as most other shows do. This is because of the stylistic serial nature of the show. Showing the 3-4pm show out of nowhere on Tuesday night would just be weird. So we must do without the show for a while.
Another reason is something Kiefer himself has said: the show simply needs these breaks in order to catch up on the post stuff like editing. They film 2 episodes at a time and even though they begin filming well in advance of the series premiere, there comes a time (right about now in fact) when the post-production people need to catch up. I don't fully understand it myself as I'm unfamiliar with a lot of the inner workings of filming a TV show, but I'll take Kiefer's word for it.
So basically what I'm saying is the five week break is a necessary evil. There's nothing we can do about it and writing angry emails to FOX isn't going to help. Besides, imagine how excited you'll be on March 30th when you're safe in the knowledge that you are in for a 9 week run straight through to the end of this roller coaster ride :)
In the mean time, here are some things to do while you bide your time:
Learn HTML and start your own 24 fan site.
Spend hours and hours browsing the plethora of wonderful fansites already out there.
Go see Elisha's new movie 'The Girl Next Door'.
Go see Kiefer's new movie 'Taking Lives' on March 19th (or 26th in the UK).
Rent or buy Season One and Season Two of 24 and watch/rewatch each episode.
If you've taped every episode like a good boy/girl, watch Season Three up until the last show to refresh your memory.
Download S3 episodes if you haven't been a good boy/girl. (where do you download eps? Check out Bittorrent or Kazaa)
Raid Blockbuster, Ebay, Netflix or whatever and rent/buy some great Kiefer movies :)
What will I be doing? I'll be rewatching S3, working on my screencap gallery and maybe doing some more 24 wallpapers because I'm learning some new Photoshop techniques and Kiefer's my guinea pig :)
I know the break sucks, but it will soon pass and we can all get our fix again.
