7am - 12pm
Okay for the sake of my sanity and to appease my sense of guilt, I'm going to recap 7am-12pm all in one post and it's probably going to not be that great but at least I'll be caught up and ready to get serious from tonight on :)
So anyway - Jack is back baby and he's smiling!!! Well, for half an hour or so anyway. But hey, I'll take anything. Jack is in love and it's pretty cool to witness that again. I think the poor guy can only be a tortured soul for so long before it drives him insane.
Audrey Raines, played by Kim Raver, is Jack's new love and so far she's not annoying me but then if you've read much of my stuff here you'll know it takes a lot for a character on 24 to irk me :) (yay Kim!)
When we first see Jack he's at a hotel getting ready to meet the new ice maiden head of CTU, Erin Driscoll. He and Audrey are all cute as they get ready for work - he as the Secretary of Defense's umm... consultant or something, she as the Defense Secretary's assistant (and also his daughter. Oh dear.) You see, Jack was fired from CTU in a memorable scene only available on the American release of the season 3 DVDs. It was hilarious actually and it's totally the way I'd expect Jack to leave a job like e's had. Erin offers to write a reference for him and he turns to her and says, 'I can get my own fuckin' job thanks.' and walks out :) Yes it's very band camp of me to giggle at the F word but really, I wasn't expecting it and I've often thought Jack needs to let out a few choice expletives now and then. Damn you FCC!
I digress. So Jack is fired but must return to CTU to meet with Erin to discuss budget issues (yawn) but it's not long before things begin to go awry.
All right, I'm really hungry atm and 24 is starting soon so I'm going to lay out the plotline so far and skimp on the details for now. There is an alleged sleeper cell active in L.A. who are responsible for kidnapping the Secretary of Defense and his daughter (oh no! Not Audrey too!) This sleeper cell is a family - mother, father, son - and ok, I don't want to get into a whole thing here with their ethnicity because there are angry muslims in the world pissed off at the depiction - so far - of this family. Suffice to say they are muslim. The father seems to be the head guy and his wife seems to follow his every command - yet she also seems to be quite a strong, determined woman herself and so far, not in a good way. They also use their teenage son to run errands for this big thing they've got planned involving the kidnapping.
Unfortunately the son is in teenage love with an American girl who thinks he's cheating on her. She followed him to the warehouse site where they are holding Heller (The SoD) and she is seen by some baddies. It gets back to his parents and they force him to kill the poor girl. It was really quite traumatic for him because he does love her and in the end he's unable to shoot her. Good job his mother poisoned her drink. Poor kid :(
So that's all going on, meanwhile Jack is on the trail following any lead he can to rescue the SoD and Audrey all the while fighting Erin Driscoll who's ego is bigger than Chapelle and Hammond's combined and can't seem to stand the fact that Jack's getting results and she's not. (Is that violin music I hear?)
The adventures Jack goes on in the first few hours alone are fantastic (robbing gas stations, shooting suspects under interrogation, saving Chloe's geek friend - who is played by the the actor who was the little Amish boy in 'Witness' with Harrison Ford back in the day btw - among other things.)
He found his way to the warehouse but Erin has been ordered by the President (evil Keeler. No more Palmer *sob) to destroy the site even if it means killing the SoD and his daughter. Well Jack's not about to have that and is going in anyway. And that's what tonight's ep will be about I assume so yay! I'm done!
I know I didn't talk about the new S2 Carrie Clone played by Aisha Tyler who's all in everyone's business at CTU and I didn't mention that we are Almeida-less. Really the only old faces are Jack, Chloe and Keeler. There is a male version of Chloe on the CTU floor now though named Edgar Stiles. I like him :) But I do have a soft spot for quirky geeks. Chloe has been arrested and let go so far and Erin pretty much fired her at the end of the last episode so I don't know if Edgar was being groomed to be the new Chloe or what, but I hope not. I love Chloe and I'm cool with 2 quirky geeks on the show.
So I'm all ready for tonight's show. I'm liking the Monday nights instead of Tuesday - gives me a reason to like Mondays again. So roll on 12pm-1pm! And thanks for being patient with me.
