Jack my friend, I don't know what else to say...
And so it ends.
So, hands up who thinks President Logan is a joke? I was nearly wishing for President Sleazy back. The way he treated Palmer and then proceeded to soak in the accolades was sickening. Hope he's drowning in scandal that forces him into impeachment by next season.
So they brought back the Chinese consulate storyline. I'd forgotten about it, but I'd figured out where they were going with it when the CTU agent they captured started sweating. Damn him.
Evil, kinky, naked Mandy was pretty cool too. As I watched I kept kind of hoping they'd work out what she'd done in the past so it was cool for me to see Aaron show Palmer the videotape of her shaking his hand and infecting him. It showed how strong Palmer was when he said to go ahead with the immunity deal. Now if only they knew she had a hand in Kim and Terri's kidnapping... I think Jack might have killed her anyway - after she gave up Marwan.
Ahh the taking down of Marwan. What a maniacal grimace he had as he struggled to make Jack let him go. Fanatacism is a scary looking thing. Shame he never knew all of his plans were for nothing.
Speaking of his plans, I thought the taking out of the noo-KLEE-er ([pet peeve] Damnit can no one on this show stick to the proper pronunciation? Even Jack said it both ways. Argh. [/pet peeve]) weapon was a bit anti-climactic. All of that hassle and angst and heartache and death along the way for a non-descript poof. I thought it was just a little too handy the way they said it would only detonate if it hits its intended target. I don't recall them saying that earlier during one of the many times they discussed how to take it out. I dunno, that felt a bit contrived - which is saying something coming from Miss Fanwanker but even I'm having trouble with that.
BUT, the finale was still fantastic and I will while away the time impatiently waiting for next season.
I'm very glad they proved me wrong and kept Tony alive. I liked how they paralleled Michelle's hostage situation with Tony's hostage situation last season. She would have turned to Jack last season to save Tony if their roles were reversed, and so she did this season. Which just proves that guys are just that much more stupid when it comes to love.
Trust in Jack guys, trust in Jack :)
But I'm happy they'll be together now, as it should be. Now if only Chloe and Edgar would hook up... *shudder* just kidding.
And Audrey... It's sad that she'll believe Jack to be dead. I wonder if she'd now regret giving up on him the way she did. Though she probably made the smart decision for herself in hindsight, but it does suck that now she has to think he's dead. I feel for the girl.
Yes, Jack is "dead." For all intents and purposes they did kill Jack off this season :) Hehehe.
I have a lot to digest so I might post more later, but I wanted to get some thoughts down right away. From the looks of the teaser they ran after the credits, I think Kiefer's back next season even if that hasn't been made official yet, so yay!
EDIT>> Ok so for those of you who missed the teaser, here it is almost verbatim (thanks to my daughter with the audiographic memory):
"On day 1, he saved the president. Day 2, he saved the city. On Day 3, he saved a nation. And Day 4, he saved the world. If you think you know what's coming next, then you don't know Jack."
Woot!
T-minus 8 months to go until Season 5.
