Jack seems shorter...
Just a random observation. I know Kiefer's not a towering figure or anything but Jack just seems shorter this time around. Well, unless he's next to Sean Astin :) I think they've hired a plethora of tall-ies.
Anyway another fab episode tonight. I was afraid it was going to be a less-than-thrilling-but-necessary transitory episode. Fortunately it turned out to be a totally-thrilling-but-necessary transitory episode. Two moles uncovered, awkwardness galore, potential love triangle, pissed-off Chloe, Mad Martha, and as little Logan as possible.
The main purpose of tonight's episode seemed to be to figure out Who Framed Roge- errr- Jack Bauer. We found out that there was indeed a purpose for the whole hostage situation because the canisters of nerve gas that Badger helped steal were located in a hangar at the airport and they needed some kind of cover to transport them out. So instead of just using a delivery van of some kind, they decided the best bet would be to make it more elaborate. That's just good telly.
So the president's Chief of Staff (so THAT'S who he is.. I think I missed that bit while I was still recovering from the shock of Palmer's assassination) chloroformed Mad Marty and of course when she came to and tried to tell her hubby that the evidence she had that Palmer was trying to tell her about the big plot was missing. Only she ended up sounding even more wacko and Logan decided to commit her to a mental hospital. My girl did not take that sitting down, nope :) She did a runner. Woohoo! So she's on the loose now.
Jack's back at CTU now and facing all kinds of awkwardness as he finds out his former love Audrey has been ordered to interrogate his new love Diane (awww.. Jack and Diane. Two 'Merican kids doing, best they can.) While Audrey's talking to Diane she sees Jack. And I think Diane can see the writing on the wall when she leaves her to go see Jack. And she was about to tell him she still loved him. *sniffle* But where does that leave Diane?
Meanwhile down on the floor Chloe's growly and bitching at her one-night stand, Spencer because he's being a twit. And later she catches in in that alway mysteriously empty tech room doing something he shouldn't be doing on one of the computers. She discovers he's been accessing files well above his clearance status and she brings Buchanan in on it (pause for a moment to go Fangirl: I found out last week that one of the writers I work with at my newspaper is actually friends with James Morrison, who plays Buchanan. So "Squeeeeee!" I know someone who knows someone on 24 :) Hehe. Ok Fangirl off.)
Well it turns out Spencer did let a guy into CTU in a somewhat deceptive manner and he did it on orders from Cummings (The president's CoS/top mole.) Spencer thinks he's letting the guy in to access some servers to track Jack Bauer's movements within CTU, but in reality, the guy's coming in to kill Jack.
So Jack is talking to McGill about what needs to be done to find out who framed him for Palmer and Michelle's deaths when they're told that Tony is conscious and wants to see Jack. On the way down to the medical unit he runs into Derek. Now, Derek seems to be a really good kid. He apologized to Jack for mistrusting him. He owned up to it and I think that impressed the hell out of Jack.
So he steps into Tony's room and the doctor tells him to be brief... but as Jack's trying to get poor Tony to wake up, he sees in the reflection of a monitor that the doc ain't a doc. He's a dick. And this dick's got a gun. A freaking awesome hand-to-hand combat fight later and the dick's got some scissors buried in his neck and Jack's got a cracked rib - but he's still standing.
Like a shot Jack's off to see little Spencer and in the space of 15 seconds he's got the kid admitting he was working on orders from Logan's Chief of Staff - that he thought he was serving the president. I believe him to be honest. He was a mole but he didn't know he was a mole, you know?
And now Jack's gonna go after Cummings himself. Badass Jack. I can't flippin' wait! It was a great episode. I never thought I'd enjoy Mondays so much but I'm totally digging them now :)
And now I think I'll go fix a cup of chamomile tea :D

Hi Melia,
Love your blog. Keep it up. I really like the episode last night. I was also assuming we'd see a boring, transitory episode. I was glad to be proven wrong. Great fight at the end with the hit man.
I doubt the man who is pulling Walt's strings is the head honcho, so it will be interesting to see who he is, and who he is really working for.
I was hoping we'd see the helicopter scene that's been in the teasers in last night's episode; guess we'll see that part of the storyline next week.
Melia:
If the nerve gas gets of the USA, then Jack might be back, back in the USSR, well, Russia. Didn't Season 1 deal with the Chetnya boys and how they were a bit unhappy at Palmer and Jack for messing around over there? Are they somehow connected to this current group of terrorists?
What about the Chinese when they find out Jack's alive and kicking . . . even if it is the crap out of bad guys? Will Logan once again serve Jack's noodle to the Peking duck?
Re: your random observation. Like David bringing down Goliath, Jack's strength isn't found in his height. Knowing what to do NOW and actually doing it builds Jack's powerful stature. Anyway, standing next to Pres Palmer and the like, isn't everyone else in the world short? Remember Palmer's son and wife? Besides, during the shooting for this season's episodes of 24, weren't most of Hollywood's height-challenged extras signed on to work the upcoming sequel for Mission Impossible?
