Down that road
I have to start by repeating the best (hottest) line of the night: "Trust me, you don't want to go down that road with me."
*shiver*
We can only nod and smile knowingly at Jack because we just know that the baddie will be giving up his intel in short order. It's brilliant. Unfortunately this time the baddie took the wimp way out (maybe he knew Jack wasn't fucking around) and asked for a damn immunity deal. Nooo Jack was not happy about that either.
But I'm getting ahead of myself here. We left Jack in Logan's office dealing with Cummings. He looked on in disgust while he whined about being a patriot and the death of Palmer was necessary to "advance the war on terrah" - I mean terror. Sorry, I'm confusing TV with real life again :) After Cummings was taken away Logan convinced Jack to see this whole thing through even though Jack would rather have let CTU handle the rest of it. He did it by appealing to Jack's own sense of patriotism and loyalty so it was hard for him to say no. So now Jack's back on a provisional basis.
As he made his way back to CTU, McGill gets a call. Now, I'm wondering if it's a requirement for the upper echelon of CTU management that they have fucked up families. Michelle had her wacko brother who tried to choke her nemesis because she dumped him, Driscoll had her schizophrenic daughter and now there's McGill and his crackwhore sister. Is it done to show a different side of him? Why does a character need some kind of personal adversity to overcome to make them seem "human" to us? Ah well I guess it ups the angst factor. Anyway I digress. His crackwhore sister called begging for money so he said to meet him in a parking lot across the street from CTU. Later on in the hour, he meets her and tries to give her the number of a doc who will help with her addictions. A proper brotherly thing for him to do. What does she do? She rolls him. She rolled her own brother. Damn that's cold.
Meanwhile, Badger (I can't help it, he'll always be Badger) discovers from his flunkies that he can't use the nerve gas because of some technobabble I wasn't really paying attention to because my PHONE KEPT RINGING! Normally I ignore the phone or turn it off but tonight a very persistent telemarketer got quite the barrage of verbal abuse for disrupting 24. So as far as I know, Badger needed a special chip in order to activate the canisters. So he was given a contact who could walk him through the tricky procedure of cutting through the outer metal layer to access some code inside that can be used to reprogram a computer chip. This chip would then be delivered to Badger by the contact. The only wrench in the deal is that CTU captured the phone calls between Badger and his contact and they were able to trace where the contact lived.
Now, Chloe had to beg Buchanan to temprarily release Spencer (her one night stand who was arrested for letting an assassin into CTU) because only he could negotiate the tricky security. Or something. Whatever, there were some good Chloe eye rolls during this whole scene. And did anyone catch Edgar's funny little smirk when Chloe fired Spencer? I thought it was adorable. He so loves Chloe.
Back in Logan's camp, it was almost sickening watching him suck up to his wife. I cheered when she slapped him. I hope she does it again. It was such a satisfying slap both in quality of sound and how quickly his head whipped around. Yes I enjoyed that very much. But that momentary glow of, "Ha ha fuck you" was replaced with a bit of a shock when Mike called them out in the hall and they found Cummings hanging by his belt, very much dead. I didn't feel sorry for him though, just a bit shocked that something like that happened so close to the President. Man, Logan's approval ratings are going to go lower than Bush's after all of this. Boo hoo.
So Jack and Curtis manage to get into Badger's contact's penthouse suite and disabled him - but to Jack's surprise, the perverted freak was keeping an underage Russian (was she Russian?) girl in the place to use and abuse. I think Jack would have killed him on principal if he hadn't needed the guy so much. Unfortunately the twat made sure the girl was part of his immunity deal. You could see the bile rising in Jack's throat as he gently convinced the poor thing to go with the perv - for now. But she had other plans. Instead, she killed his sorry ass by surprising even Jack and snatching his gun away from him and letting loose with the bullets.
Oh dear. Can jack fake his way through the meet the guy was setting up with Badger to give him the reprogrammed chip? Tune in next week!
Tick boom.

I was disappointed the writers brought out the fucked up family plot vehicle again. They obviously have a recipe that they think they have to stick to in order to create a good show.
Wasn't the penthouse guy in the show The Pretender? Or am I thinking of someone else?
I'm glad the Russian teen took charge of the situation. Jack should have never allowed his ethics to be compromised by that penthouse weenie.
I kept telling my 14 yr old son that the metal shop dude was wrong for cooperating with Badger and the other terrah-rists, but he didn't understand why until Badger shot him when they were through with him. Not sure what I would have done in that situation; I tell myself I would puncture the canisters and kill them all. Because they would never show me any mercy. Not sure I'd have the guts tho', and I don't ever want to find out for real.
Probably my least favorite episode of the season due to the aforementioned dysfunctional family ploy.
Inessa is from Ukraine, not Russia. And no, it's not the same ;).
Yes, Rossler was played by the guy from "The Pretender" - Patrick Bauchau.
The episode was good (ep actually about Jack's tough choices - he had to decide three times and it wasn't easy for him), but I'm still waiting for Tony and Kim. And something REAL AND FAST to happen. Again.
