And I'm.... upset
Let me start by saying this: I'm sleepy. I'm so sleepy I feel like my eyelids weight about ten pounds each and gravity would really appreciate it if I let them close. You see, I took some cold medication when I got home from work but I'm so out of it I forgot that the meds I bought are "nighttime" meds. I should have gone to bed 4 hours ago according to my eyelids.
It's a good thing 24 was so good tonight. I forgot how tired I was for a whole hour. But it's over now so this may be a short, typo-ridden recap tonight.
Before I start thought I just want to do a little dance because for once, I WAS RIGHT! I KNEW Audrey was set up. I called it I called it. I've never been able to call anything on this show :) So please allow me my little moment of w00t.
Yeah so Audrey was taken into custody after Stenger named her as the source of the schematics. Bierko was on his way to the site where the gas would be released. Henderson makes an appearance by talking to Bierko about how important this whole operation is. And OH! I just realized it was a Logan-free episode tonight! I didn't even notice! See writers of 24? He wouldn't be missed. Get rid of him please, he's an idiot.
Jack brought Stenger back to CTU and had to practically beg to be the one to interrogate Audrey. Homeland wasn't happy about it but she consented. I was worried that Jack hardass-ness with Audrey would just bring back memories for her about the way he questioned Paul last season and that once again Jack would have to sacrifice his happiness for the good of the country. But I didn't have to fear. Audrey, though scared to death, seemed to realize Jack was doing what he had to do (finally) and stood her ground against everything he threw at her. He believed her.
But Homeland chick (names are going to be an issue tonight, sorry) thinks Jack was too easy on her and orders Burke in with his suitcase of pain. As he begins administering the pain to Audrey, Jack races to find a way to nullify Stenger's immunity deal because he believes she has more info. He and Chloe find a connection between Henderson and Stenger: a slew of phone calls. It's thin but it's enough to break her deal.
And have more info she does. Under duress from Jack she admits that Henderson fed her Audrey's name to use if she should get caught. Jack saw through Henderson's ploy to keep CTU occupied with Audrey while Bierko does his thang. Not only did he find out Audrey was innocent, but Stenger also knew that Bierko was headed for a natural gas company to distribute the gas into people's homes.
Cut to Bierko and indeed he is trying to mix the gas with.. well gas. But apparently the PSI level had to be lowered to 50% before the gases could mix. Stenger didn't know which gas company he was using but Chloe's new coworker knew about the PSI thing. I'll talk about this chick in a mo. So off Jack goes in his chopper to try and stop Bierko.
Back at the compound, Aaron begins to be worried about Palmer because he's taking too long to get there. He heads out to try and find him and they meet in the woods. But before palmer can give Aaron the info he has from David Palmer, they're set upon again by the dudes in black. We also learn that Henderson is the one who sent them to kill Wayne before he could get the info to Aaron. But Aaron once again manages to get a Palmer (albeit an unconscious Palmer due to a big firefight) out of danger. I love love that Aaron is getting some action this year :)
Back at CTU and Chloe's new underling. She's a girl sent up from the bowels to replace Edgar. Now, I don't understand the need CTU has to hire crazy people but the new girl is definitely cuckoo. She seems to think a pat on the back equates with a good hard shag or something. Anyway, at first we believe she's being harassed by someone she filed a sexual harassment complaint about at another CTU office. She fills Chloe in on it and Chloe is sympathetic in her own weird way. But later, after Buchanan pats her shoulder and gives her a "job well done" after she found the natural gas company Bierko is using, she turns to Chloe and says she ought to finle a complaint about it. The look on Chloe's face at that moment said, "Whackjob." It was priceless.
But whackjob or not, she is the reason Jack gets to finally get his eyes on Bierko. Jack, Curtis and assorted agents land covertly on a roof at the gas company and the infiltrate into the control room. Another firefight erupts and continues for some time. But Bierko sees the PSI level drop to 50% and he enables his remote as we watch the ominous canisters open up and begin seeping deadly gas. Then Bierko manages to escape.
Jack gets one of the gas employees to tell him where some kind of valve is because he knows the only way to stop the gas from getting into homes now is to blow everything up and incinerate it. He manages to set a C-4 charge on the valve and gives himself 30 seconds to run away. In a very cool scene we see Jack running for his life as pipe after pipe erupts in flames behind him and *just* as he makes it out of the building he sees Bierko getting away and he goes after him - right back into an area that is about to explode. He and Bierko fight as the place blows up around them. They fall into a cop car, there is a final explosion and then...
Tick boom.

"no mention of the tender scene between Jack and Audrey when he races in and rescues her."
Crap I forgot all about it. I blame the Nyquil. That was indeed a great moment in the show and I agree that it's moments like that that make Jack such an intriguing character. You don't get those kinds of emotional levels with your everyday, run-of-the-mill action heroes.
It was a great episode. Jack can be dead/dying. If I am not mistaken, FOX hasn't announced a sixth season, and this is the last few hours of the day.

Good point, but Tony didn't get the big dramatic death he deserved. Also, sense he was in a car, couldnt fire and heat, friction agianst the car, make it go boom? I'm probubly wrong though.

Good review! I made sure to bookmark your site. I found it hilarious that the new girl mentioned filing a complaint about Buchanan touching her. I don't believe that Jack is dead though, I believe I read somewhere that FOX did sign a season 6. I'll try and find the link. I really wonder what Palmer has to tell Aaron, and will he be able to?
what are you talking about, Croweyes? A whole week passed between episodes; plenty of time for Jack and Stenger to get to CTU. (smiley, winkey, laughey)
Seriously, yeah, he got there fast, but it didn't really register with me, or detract from me enjoying this hour a lot...a whole lot.
I hope you haven't lost your enjoyment for the show over this.
Jack is alive. Here is proof from FOX: http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/7746/clipboard018ji.jpg This shows that jack will interogate Bierko. yay!
My question is... If Jack is blowing up the pipeline within the plant to incinerate the gas and the nerve gas... why wouldn't all this occur at the individual's homes that the nerve gas was destined to arrive at. I know in my house.. I don't smell natural gas fumes... my furnace ignites them and there is no need to have a huge explosion to take care of this... Am I wrong in thinking this??
Post some thoughts on that.
wait, can we somehow verify whether or not FOX signed the show to a 6th season? ashley, you had mentioned in an above post that there is a link? i'd be able to relax a bit about more major characters being killed off if i knew there was another season coming. they'd have to leave some of the biggies in, for transition purposes at least.
true, jack is most likely not dead from the explosion. however, there are other possibilities. perhaps he is alive, but suffered a bad facial burn, such that he'll have a mutilated face for the rest of the series. kind of like a phantom of the opera sort of thing. that might be almost as bad as him being dead though. anyway, i know the show is all about keeping the characters in flux, but i think this season has seen enough major deaths already.
for future reference a good way to get over sleepiness...imagine what CTU agents are going through, they stay up 24 hours long!! great site by the way.
24 is definitely coming back in 2007. Kiefer has been rumored to be exploring the possiblity of shooting in London next year and Fox announced during season 4 that the show had been renewed for two years. So season 6 is coming. Whether or no there will be a season 7 and beyond remains to be seen. And jack ain't dead. They wouldn't waste something as huge as the death of jack Bauer on anything but the season finale. And even then, it'd be a cliffhanger. So stop all this is jack dead talk. Now every other character is fair game. I see Kim or Audrey being the next major character to go. I think Dr. Ponyboy is on Henderson's payroll also and will kidnap Kim for Henderson and he will kill her in front of jack. Typical ballistic jack will follow. Just like in season 1.
We say how Audrey messed with jack's head. What if it was Kim, not Audrey?
