    Blood on your hands

Tried it a little different tonight folks. I wrote this as-it-happened. It's choppy but then again my writing's pretty choppy even when I do it post-show :) Nothing new there :)

Anyway if you guys prefer I do the 'caps the other way let me know.
    ---------------
Logan gets a call from Henderson. Henderson has to explain to Logan that Jack has that recording and that he got away from the bank. Henderson tells Logan to use CTU to find Jack.

Prez calls CTU puts pressure on them to find Jack. Homeland's director, Karen Hayes' sleazy sidekick, Miles convinces her to use Chloe to find Bauer.

Jack and Wayne hook up with Buchanan and tell him what's up.

He hands off Wayne to Buchanan and speeds off to meet Heller at the Van Nuys airport.

Audrey and Heller meet, Jack shows up but Heller is suspicious because he thinks Jack is still a fugee

Jack convinces Heller to step inside one of the hangar buildings and plays the recording for him.

Heller is shocked at first but then he's resigned and admits he was afraid of something like this when Logan took office. He felt Logan "rose on the tide of his ambition" and was terrified when Logan took office.

Heller takes the evidence, Audrey goes with her dad and Jack says he will go dark until the evidence is public. But then Heller's team doublecrosses Jack and Audreyby capturing Jack and Heller claims that going public with the evidence will cripple the country. Instead he will use the evidence to convince Logan to step down quietly. Jack yells that it's the wrong move, that you can make a deal with Logan but Heller has Jack and Audrey subdued and leaves.

CTU monitors Chloe and sets her up to think they've found Audrey so that Chloe will contact her to warn her. Which she does. And they trace the phone call to the airport. But Audrey does not answer for obvious (to us) reasons. They arrest Chloe.

CTU tells Logan where they found Audrey and he asks her to recall her tactical team because he's sending his own military team.

CTU contacts Novick to whinge about Logan's decision to recall the tact team. Novick goes to the Veep with the confusing news about the tact team. Novick remains unconvinced and he calls a general via the DOD and asks him about his mission to intercept Jack. The General knows nothing about it of course because Logan has Henderson on it.

Novick confronts Logan about it. Logan uses the excuse that the Chinese would still want Jack if they found out he's still alive to try and slip out of Novick's probing. He goes on the defensive by touting his "skills" during the day.

Showdown between Chloe and sleazy Miles who's really just jealous of Chloe's mad skillz in holding. Chloe manages to pickpocket Miles and gets his access card where she breaks out of her cell and slips away with a laptop. Crazy sexual harassment girl runs into her and Chloe reveals a little of what's going on to her to try and convince her to let her go so she can help Jack. When she tries to call for help Chloe pulls the "I will recommend you for psych eval because you're sick' card and she lets Chloe go.

Heller calls Logan while he's canoodling with Martha. Heller says he's on his way to see Logan and Logan should "know the reason why."

In a panic Logan calls Henderson and tells him about Heller. Henderson tells Logan that Heller won't have the recording - that he's sure Jack still has it so Logan is to stall Heller until Henderson can get to Jack.

Heller arrives and sees Aaron in the hall. She asks him what Heller's doing there. Aaron says he can't tell her, to please not ask him anything more. You can tell Aaron doesn't want to reveal what he knows to her... He asks Martha to meet him in a couple of minutes in the stables.

Logan comes to meet Heller. heller refuses to shake hands and just blurts out everything about the recording. Logan goes on the defensive and gets self-righteous. Heller goes for the throat about oil being the resaon for all of this and Logan pretty much admits it all and then does his best to justify his actions. Heller tells him , "You think that justifies the blood on your hands?" and then tells him his terms: drop the charges on Jack, leave Audrey alone and resign. Hawesome!

Chloe meets up with Buchanan and they get set up to try and help Jack.

Martha waits at the stables for Aaron - but finds his cell phone on the ground.

Jack and Audrey begin trying to escape by Jack burning through his restraints (and most of the skin on his wrists) on a hot pipe in the room.

Jack overpowers the guard on them and runs off across the hangar while Audrey ties up the guard Jack knocked out.

Jack runs into another guard by Heller's plane - the one who's holding the recording and gets it back BUT Henderson shows up in a chopper and begins firing. A shootout ensues between jack and the guard and Henderson's men. Soon though it's Just Jack and Henderson's men and he dispatches them right quick by blowing something up.

But during all of that Henderson gets inside the hangar building and captures Audrey. Henderson claims he's protecting the integrity of this country and they begin bartering. Henderson says he'll meet Jack halfway, slices an artery in Audrey's arm and sends her out. She has three minutes-ish to live unless Jack tosses Henderson the recording. Jack struggles for a little bit. Ev ery bit of training ingrained him is fighting his impulse to save Audrey. But Love won. Ahhhh. And he tosses the recorder to Henderson who escapes. Jack ties off Audrey's arm.

Just as Logan is about to sign a document in front of the Veep tendering his resignation, Henderson calls him and tells him he's got the recording. As the Veep stands around gaping and wondering what's going on, Logan hangs up and turns to the Veep. He says, "I'm asking Secretary Heller to tender his resignation." Dumbfounded, Heller states the conspiracy to the Veep and says he has proof of the President's duplicity. Logan asks him to produce it which of course, Heller can't. Then he puts two and two together and figures out Logan's phone call came from someone saying the evidence is safe.

Was it a record 7 spilt screens in the end tonight by the way?

Thanks again, Melia, for the summary. I think this new way is just fine. Not quite as much of your great humor, but that's understandable.
I had an argument with my sons after Jack threw Henderson the recording. I think that he may have pulled the patented Jack switcheroonie. Henderson has no idea what format the recording would be in as he's never seen it before. Jack could have given him a CD-R just as easily.

Guess we'll figure that one out next week.

I also don't think Audrey will die like one of my sons thought. 24's style is to surprise the audience with sudden deaths, not drawn out by bleeding to death.
Case in point. Tony's death. Just as you think he's recovered from the explosion, and is taking revenge for Michelle. BA-BAM!!! He's dead.

And I'm guessing Aaron is alive. When 24 kills off a character, you get to see that happen. They wouldn't kill Aaron off-screen.

    Oh well, until next week...

First before I forget, in the blog you mentioned about the explosion when Jack is being shot at by Henderson baddies, the explosion was at the result of shooting an oil tank. (if you see the episode, notice Jack aiming carefully for something...it's that)

"What are the chances Heller had his own voice recorder going during his conversation with Logan before Logan got the call from Henderson?"

That's what I wondered, he didn't move his hand out but if that was the case, why not play the tape in front of the VP and get the resignation? Unfortunatelty he wasn't that smart.

As for Martha, sorry about not putting the spoiler alert, now I know. :)

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU DON'T WATCH THE SHORT PREVIEWS.
I guess I shouldn't assume with 24 :p, she could be held in a private place where she can't make contact. As for Aaron, the same could be done to him.

And why would she be killed off? Well in the previews it seems she knew too much for Logan's liking, so you never know. :D

I hope you're right about Audrey, smurfmurf.

"What are the chances Heller had his own voice recorder going during his conversation with Logan before Logan got the call from Henderson?"
I was wondering why he didn't do that...who knows, maybe he did? But if so he should have presented that when asked if he had the evidence. He's stupid for not bringing it with him in the first place.

Melia: I LOVE your blog no matter how you post it. But, I do love seeing your comments and humor when you post the "old" way.

surfmurph: I also wondered if Jack gave Henderson a fake recording. But, I don't think he did or there might not be enough to fill the rest of the episodes this season.

    Hi Melia,
I´d prefer your old way of writing as most of the others do. You achieve your highest narrative performance in retrospective! :-) Anyway, thank you for blogging!

This episode left me disappointed. We know about Logan working with Henderson for about two full episodes now. We had so many twists and one-ways (like the hostage situation at the airport) in the first half, and now everything looks like a hunt for some MacGuffin device (the voice recording). In addition, a voice recording (nowadays this is digital) can be copied! It is technically no problem in 24 sending maps, photos of suspects and live streams from satellites to a PDA, but nobody thinks about transferring a simple audio file to some safe place. Second, everything started with terrorists, now it has turned into a debate on integrity of government in with the American people trusts!? To me it seems like constructing a apologia for Logan´s "patriot" plan: It was a reasonable intent, but the president is a bit dumb, some terrorists did not cooperate the way they should (surprisingly) and the worst thing that could happen is not war, but the Americans discovering that their president makes mistakes.

I was surprised by Heller meeting Jack at the plane. I would have expected some emotion. Jack has saved his life and just resurrected!

Maybe Heller did not have his own voice recorder but just a mobile phone with someone listening online for reassurance. Presenting any evidence to Logan would be without use: Logan knows what he has done and Gardner does not have the power to stop Logan. I have the impression that Logan has more control and surveillance in the White House than we might assume: If something happened to Aaron, who did know what he was going to do (Logan at least was skeptical of Aaron)? We do not know if Cummings really committed suicide, someone told Henderson about Wayne Palmer´s presence in the White House before Gardner told Logan.

I agree, Jack could easily make a copy of the tape, but who would he call at this point? Audrey was his contact and she was with him. I don't think Jack gave Henderson a fake tape (even though he time)because he would have taken care of Audrey first and not chased after Henderson.
Heller was stupid to leave the recording with his lackeys. Another somewhat innocent guy gets killed working with JAck. When Logan looks at Heller and asks for his evidence, why does HEller have that stupified look on his face? Of course he could not produce the evidence right there. He should have come back with, "Its in a safe place waiting for the attorney general to see it." Then what would Logan have done, said (in front of the VP) "No it isn't - I have it!"
They better not have killed Aaron offscreen. I agree with above, there's probably someone else in the President's circle that is working with Logan. Obviously Martha finds something out next episode and they try to haul her off again. Someone has to be left inside the "white house" to challenge Logan.
Looks like our favorite good guys (Bill, Audrey, ect) are setting up their own command post. CTU should be totally in the dark now without Audrey.
I hope the writers have not written themselves into a corner where they are unable to connect all the dots at the end. It seems like each new episode here at the end raises more questions about who knows what and why things are happening. Logan's 2 sentence description of his motive, "give the terrorists the nerve gas, let it blow up on them. Then I can invoke the military terms of the treaty and take over the Mideast, heh, heh." was too somplistic for everything that has happened. Sounds like George W.
I still don't understand why the terrorists had to have a hostage standoff at the airport so they could gie the other terrorist the key to unlocking the storage comaprtment for the nerve gas.
Hoefully more questions will be raised than answered in the next few weeks. mike13

I agree that the airport incident still poses questions. Another thing that I was a little bit surprized at is Jack's remark on the terrorists motive about middle east oil in conjunction with the treaty that Logan worked on with Russians. That was kinda mentioned in the episode in which James Nathanson got killed, but I'm not sure if that amount of detals were revealed at that time, although I admit all these pieces of stories seem to come together to make sense -- the writers of 24 are real geniuses. Another thing James Nathanson mentioned in that episoe was that it's not Walt Cummings only who's behind the operation inside the government. Maybe he meant Logan, but I guess Logan's involvement was kept secret even to Cummings. Then maybe Nathanson was talking about someone else. Hmm.. Will see, anyway.

I found myself annoyed at the end of this one. It seems as if they are pulling out more season 2 tricks. The main threat neutralized in the fifteenth hour, everybody's chasing a recording that implicates the main baddie, yadda yadda yadda. I sincerely hope they bring Curtis back into the loop and finally interrogate Bierko, because I'm starting to get pissed at the plot stagnation going on. I really hope they're setting us up for a spellbinding home stretch, because it seems as though the writers are a little stumped as to how they should resolve this whole thing.
