Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
I have been bitching and moaning about Logan all season long and at last my wish is granted - because now the main focus on the show will be taking that rat bastard down. Oh yeah baby!
Right the fuck on.
This will be sort of shorter than normal this evening I'm afraid because I've got actual *gasp* work I need to do before bed. My paper's in the middle of a big Movie Madness tournament all this month and I get to be the one to update the site every night. (Yes I'm plugging it here. Go vote for your favourite movie and I'll love you forever.)
So.... Jack has escaped with Wayne, Evelyn and her child and discovered that she has a recording of Logan speaking to Henderson about the day's events - most specifically David Palmer's murder. She tells Jack through her pain (remember, she had been shot in the leg last week) that she put it in a safe deposit box earlier in the day and she has the key.
Jack and Wayne head off to that bank manager's home to get him to open the vault for them by any means necessary. They left Evelyn in a motel room with her daughter - but Henderson's looking for her because he knows she's got that evidence.
At CTU, Audrey speaks to Jack and learns about Logan's deceit. They decide the only way to solve this problem is to involve Secretary of Defense Heller who's flying in from Japan. Once the evidence is in his hands and because of his integrity, he'll be able to topple the stupid president. W00t!
So Audrey and Chloe set up all kinds of secure phone lines etc. so Audrey can leave the building to meet Heller when he lands. On the premise of needing some shuteye, she leaves CTU - but not before the ice queen from Homeland has a tracking device put on her car - and also not before Logan calls her to tell her that Jack is to be arrested on site.
Why you ask? Because mastermind that he is, he's still a wuss and he's panicking again. During a phone call with Henderson, Logan whines about the fact that everything got out of control while Henderson rolls his eyes and tells him to suck it up - basically. :) The next thing we know Logan is on the phone telling the ice queen that he has new evidence (that he can't divulge of course) that jack was the shooter in the Palmer assassination.
Funny thing is, the ice queen is beginning to question the president's order. She's not so sure absorbing CTU was such a good idea now. But like an automaton, she follows orders and issues the arrest warrant.
Now here's something kind of cool - Logan is confronted soon after this by the Veep. The veep is someone I disliked at first but that's because I was being misdirected. Now I think he's cool - as soon as he told Logan Jack should be treated like a hero. You're damn right Veep.
But Logan dismisses him and goes on to give a press conference telling America the threat has passed, and he took all the credit to the slimy little....
And Martha is buying his bull as well. She feels bad for doubting her husband throughout the day and is seeing him as the strong person who handled crisis after crisis - selective memory is taking over now and they have a moment when she apologizes for not believing in him and we have to watch this gross old man make out with her a little. That just not something I need to see and I think I'm scarred thinking about Logan slipping Martha the tongue. *shudder*
Moving on...
Back with Jack, he and Wayne infiltrate the bank manager's home, kidnap him and tie up his wife. I first wondered why they were going about it in this rough way - pretending to be thieves when they could have just flashed some credentials and ordered him to comply. But later I realized that the less the manager knows, the better.
So they reach the bank and get in. But as they wait for the vault's time release to work the manager recognizes Wayne. He convinces Wayne to tell him what's going on and then he becomes something of a hero by doing whatever he can to help Jack and Wayne. They get the recording from the safety deposit box and Wayne is forced to listen to the most powerful man in the country discuss David Palmer's assassination as if it's a mere annoyance. It's painful for him.
But while they are at the bank, Evelyn has passed out and her poor daughter is being traumatized by having to see her mother's blood on her own hands, and when Evelyn faints while trying to get to her to comfort her, she cries harder... and then calls 911. Which is being monitored by Henderson.
(On a side note, I just want to say that all I could think about during this scene was that poor kid IRL who tried to call 911 for his mother but they thought it was a prank and so did not send help, and then the mother died. I'm so sorry for that kid.)
So Henderson discovers Evelyn and forces her to tell him where Jack is. I'm not sure if he killed her and the kid or not - I hope not though because she's a hero too. Henderson sends his minions to the bank ahead of him to take position - but Jack sees them. He finds that his only play is to trip the silent alarm and get the cops to show up. The minions will engage the cops creating a diversion and they can try to escape.
All goes according to plan - but the poor manager is shot and killed. That was sad. Another death on Jack's hands he'll have to internalize. Later. Right now he's working on momentum and adrenaline.
Heller is meeting Audrey at the Van Nuys airport and so when Jack and Wayne escape in a cop car, that's where they're heading as well. He calls Audrey to tell her the words I have longed to hear all season:
(Quoting from memory) "We're going to have to take down the President of the United States."
Yes! I actually woohoo'd :)
And for my lovely little anonymous commenter: Tick Boom.
A very cool episode. My sister has been sucked into the show so I got a call from her as soon as it was over (which explains the delay on this post - sorry she said to blame her) so we could rehash.
And in even cooler news, Today it was all over the web that Mr. Sutherland has signed himself a lucrative little deal with FOX for three. More. Years.
Right the fuck on.

Melia, your site is the first place I came to tonight as 24 was done!! The show tonight was good but not great. I get a little irritated at the fact that no matter what happens someone is always one step ahead or ON TOP of somebody. Is it just me or does watching Robocop Henderson give anyone else the heebie jeebies? {{{shudder}} Chloe is something else. She might as well wear a shirt that says "Up yours!" Love it....keep posting and I'll keep reading...Right the fuck on ha ha
Solid episode but as I have said on other sites, it was an obvious "setup" episode for next week (expect a crapload of commercials for 24, more than normal) where a lot looks to happen. (chloe goes to jail/gets in trouble, heller confronts logan)
Next week is going to be kick-ass. :D
Whenever Chloe outmaneuvers those pompouws ass bureaucrats, it feels like the best moment of the show to me. Thank you, Chloe, for saving the world for us.
Melia, you must, very calmly in your best Jack Bauer-controlled, reassuring yet firm voice, tell your sister that, while you love her as much as Jack loves Kim or Audrey, you're right in the middle of saving the world for anxious 24-addicts in need of clarifying episode highlights, and tell her to log on to your site, like everyone else, and post comments should she wish to discuss the show or ask questions . . . or else you must throw her against the wall, with devoted sisterly love, getting her momentarily out of the way while you complete your assignment, one as is the case with Jack, you don't get paid to do, but as a true humanitarian you are compelled to do for your fans need you.
Love your blog! Chloe rocks! If anything ever happens to Chloe, I may not be able to keep watching! My husband said he thinks Chloe trained Jack. ;>) I was also wondering if Henderson killed Evelyn and her daughter. I'm guessing he had to. And for your other lovely little anonymous commenter - Tick Boom.
About last nights episode- It left me kind of bummed.
Of course Henderson had to kill Evelyn and her daughter, thank god they didn't show that scene. "Evelyn, tell me where Jack went." "No." Bullet in daughter's leg. "Please Evelyn." "Alright, he went..." Bullets in both of them.
Cool bank manager had to get killed. Here's a reasonable, "normal" guy who reacts to the situation like we all hope we would. Actually tries to do the right thing, helps Jack and Wayne. Guess he should have stayed in the bank, eh? Just like the innocent mechanic that helped the terrorists open the gas canisters. I'm sick of EVERY ONE of these innocent good guys getting killed. Surprise us, let one make it.
Pres Logan seemed to go from a weak spineless President to a weak spineless bad guy. "It's all spinning out of control", "Your problem Henderson." He set himself up to fall by telling bad, spur of the moment lies to his wife, VP, and HS lady at CTU. All one of them has to do is confirm there is no "forthcoming evidence" or that he never spoke to the press secretary or whatever, and his house of cards will come crumbling down. Also, what do you think Bierko will say about all this once he wakes up? Surley he will throw a wrench into the lies Logan has set up. Looking at next weeks preview, it's great that Jack and Audrey get the evidence to Hiller, but Logan seems so overmatched by him, I can't imagine how they will sustain everything for what, seven more episodes?
Very cool to watch Chloe outsmart the HS asshole. Sure, he'll try to bust her next week. But something new crisis will appear and the head lady (can't remember her name!) will realize they need Chloe and she'll override her assistant asshole and reinstate Chloe.
Any other cast members from the original Robocop going to show up? The guy playing the VP (Laura Palmer's dad and killer) was one of the bad guys and of course Peter Weller was Robocop. Miguel Ferrer? Kurtwood Smith would be a cool addition, he's been playing Eric Foreman's dad too long. Well, he'll be free for next season.
I look for Curtis and White House Mike to make combacks, they've had a few hours to catch some sleep, so they should be well rested.
Please don't kill Aaron!
mike13
yeah, good point -- what the hell has happened to Curtis and Novick? they just disappeared for 3 straight episodes. they should bring these characters back!!
and i really hope bill buchanan makes it back into the show, maybe in the field instead of at CTU. i had grown fond of him, probably because of the loyalty he eventually developed towards jack.
you're right, they're not going to be able to sustain the whole 'Logan as mastermind' scenario for 7 more episodes. i'm guessing this part of it will somewhat resolve in the next 2 wks, but then there will be several more major plot twists as we hunker down for the final run.
still no resoultion on the issue of Kim and her new, possibly evil, psychotherapist asshole boyfriend.
maybe Mandy will make her typical, late-season cameo appearance?
Great episode!
3 More Years? WOO!

I agree that 'Logan as mastermind' scenario cannot be the final shocker. One thing quite peculiar about this senason is that the true nature of the terrorism was not revealed for a long time. Now we kinda know it's about home grown terrorism in a most disturbing way, but I still feel we don't know the true nature of the cause of the terrorists whoever they are. Maybe it's about revenge of robocop (joke).
I am not sure about Martha. When Evelyn left her in the last episode, Martha noticed her nervousness. I would rate her more intelligent than it seemed. To me it looked like she was testing Aaron to know who she can trust. I still do not understand, how Evelyn could record a phone call between Logan and Henderson. Logan is president, she is an assistant!
What about Bierko? As far as I know he is still at CTU and he should be alive. Usually the producers are not reluctant to let people die, so I assume that Bierko might give names other than Nathanson (Bierko only gave order to kill Nathanson, not Henderson, so he might have had no contact with him).
And why did David Palmer know about the conspiracy AND Henderson (if it was his plan) knew that Jack was alive AND he knew who knew about it? Maybe David Palmer was involved into the conspiracy at first and he suggested Jack to watch over the nerve gas (doing a better job than Schaeffer). I do not really believe in this, though.
All this could be over in one episode: Logan taken down by James Heller and Wayne Palmer going to public, Heller's influence reinstates Buchanan and removes all these annoying bureaucrats, Gadner president, fist-fight Jack vs. Henderson, Jack is hero (ignore what the Chinese think) and returns to some woman. ....... But we all know, it won't be that easy (thinking of the (real) end: I see Martha and Aaron bonding and gagging Logan? Nice picture ;) )
Yeah, and when did she have time to get the tape over to the bank? There's definitely some other big shocker coming, because we still need to know who originally knew Jack was alive, and what David Palmer knew and how he knew it. That's why I still think Chloe might know more than she is sharing (revised from my earlier "she's a bad guy"). She is the only one of the four besides Jack still alive. Maybe she is working to put things right? Henderson could not know for certain Jack was alive. And why try to kill them all to begin with? What do they know that holds the key that they don't know they know? Or did he do it as a distraction, throw CTU off the case, or try to smoke Jack out? I will be disappointed if the writers do not come back to these points.
I think it is really interesting to learn a little about their proccess from reading the Pres Logan article in USA Today Monday. The actor playing Logan had no idea he would turn out to be a bad guy. So when you go back and read the transcripts, especially between Walt and Logan, Logan is acting as if he really has not idea what's going on, and he really doesn't.
Also, I'm sure Kim will be back. C. Thomas Howell (her boyfirend) is too big a star to just show up for a supporting role in 2 episodes.

Hey mike13,
as far as I remember, Palmer's murderer confessed that Michelle, Tony and Chloe should be killed to frame Jack. Kind of paradoxon: Framing a dead man by killing everybody who knows that the dead man is alive? Who was supposed to initially suspect Bauer according to that strange plan. That could support your Chloe-is-bad-theory: She is the only person knowing the link between Palmer, Michelle and Tony. In addition I assume that she was the only person knowing Jack's new identity (she collected information about Kim for him), so only she could bring Jack Bauer back to life and thereby making him a possible suspect. I have no recording of the first episode. Didn't Chloe shoot the assassin first, I remember Jack calling "Chloe, hold you fire!". Another point: Killing Jack would destroy the plan of framing him (there would have been much investigation on who killed him).
Alternatively, someone who only knew that Jack was alive intended exactly this: If Jack does not appear if we kill Palmer, Tony, Michelle and Chloe, then he is dead for sure. If he appears we can finally kill him.
michael
Great thoughts. I had to reread that a few times. Then who would want Jack dead? The Chinese are the only ones I can think of that would have the motive to smoke him out of hiding. Otherwise, leave well enough alone. He didn't want to come back. From what we now know about Logan, why would he have begged Jack to stay on and track down the nerve gas? He could have manipulated the situation to kill him around that time. Let CTU keep fumbling around. Did he realize his plan was already out of control at that point? But this was before he gave the Russian travel route to the terrorists, so some part of his plan was still functioning. And what exactly put his plan out of control? Was it Bierko disappearing with the nerve gas or was it Jack uncovering Henderson? Should I really be this bored at work?
mike13
Hey Melia. I just wanted to say I enjoy reading your posts.
Daniel
I just watched Jay Leno's show when Mary Lynn Rajskub the Chloe appeared, but it was kinda disappointing. In my mind, she deserved at leaat a coueple of minutes of standing ovation just for apprearing there. But it was still nice to see her on a mainstream show.
