This most certainly rivals the Edgar moment in season 5. This was by far one of the most action packed, yet emotionally draining, episodes of 24 I have ever seen.
I asked myself the same question, just like I did when Tony died. Maybe it is because he didn't die, we just didn't see him whisked away to the hospital. Or maybe it's because the producers like to keep us on our toes and trick us into a pattern (i.e. silent clock on major character death), then shake it up so we don't really know what is going on.
