"Call me when it's done." 11am-12pm
Tonight's episode was full of backstabby goodness. Lots of knives going in quite a few backs. It was cool.
First knife was thrown in the beginning with Tom Lennox and Karen at each other's throats about his agenda and her unwillingness to let him move forward with it. As she leaves, he turns to his toady (played by Chad Lowe) and says she's gone from annoyance to obstacle and something needs to be done. Toady has no problem with this and gets right on it.
At CTU we learn that a ripple effect is going on with Lennox's agenda when Bill learns he has to start with the racial profiling on any muslims working for him - this includes one of his best techies, Nadia. This means her hands are tied getting through security measures and she's unable to complete her work quickly which slows everyone down.
Moving on to Jack, he rips the bag off Gray's head and gets with the interrogating. Gray is crying like a man-bitch. After some more menacing Jack growls he reveals that Jack's father disappeared the day before to clean up Gray's mess with a guy named McCarthy. Apparently McCarthy was hired by his company to bring those nukes into the country for decommissioning and recycling into energy projects. But McCarthy turned out to be dodgy and brokered the deal that got the nukes to Fayed.
A quick glance into a sportscar shows us that the British bloke still can't find an engineer for Fayed.
Moving on to Walid, he's now wired and mingling with the other detainees. He's got their trust and they're talking. The FBI find out one of the detainees has a cell and they need to get it to listen in to any calls he makes. Walid then has to pickpocket it, make a call to CTU (Might be the same number as last time 24 used a real phone number :) I called it and got the full mailbox for "Nextel's 24" :) It's 310-597-3781 by the way :)
Back at the White House, Lennox chucks his own knife and confronts Karen and tells her he'll be expecting her resignation within the hour or he'll make things very uncomfortable for Buchanan. He's got a bit of a skeleton (manufactured it more like) and will use it to get rid of her. He really is a son of a bitch.
So Karen does the only thing she can do. Tender her resignation to Palmer. He refuses it though, like a good boy. But she's insistent. She tells him how proud she is to serve under him and tells him he is his own best counsel. I think it was a bid to get him to realize Tom's a dick. She asks to be reassigned to CTU L.A.
As she leaves Palmer's office she runs into Tom's toady and he works out she resigned. He calls Tom and tells him she's gone. Tom's a dick.
After Walid does his bit getting CTU access to the phone, Chloe discovers that the guys the FBI are tracking aren't terrorists so much as spectators watching the goings-on of the day via some special website. They've been using the phone to access the site. The whole thing is a bust but before they can pull Walid out, they discover he nicked the phone and riot-larity ensues. he gets a good beating but seems to be ok.
Going back to Jack, he leads Gray into McCarthy's office and checks his comp. He says 10 mins after the bomb went off McCarthy started deleting files. He and Gray hear a noise. Jack checks it out after cuffing Gray to something. He gets jumped but his dad interrupts and stops his guys from shooting Jack. Wow. Jack's daddy's tall. He gets his bodyguard to go get Gray and bring him into the room.
Jack's dad tries to convince Jack to let him clean up Gray's mess, but just when Gray tells Jack family's all that matters, "Just ask Terry." Jack goes a little nuts and is about to pummel Gray when Gray turns the tables (last knife of the evening.) The bodyguards hit Jack and Graham becomes Calm-cool-collected guy and turns it around on him. He orders the guards to cuff his father and Jack as they both look on stunned. Graham says he's glad they can all finally lay their cards on the table.
They lead Jack and Dad outside where they find the teams CTU sent to watch exits all dead. Graham says Jack forced his hand and has his flunkies put Jack and Dad in a van. He tells his guys to "Call me when it's done." and he drives off. Jack and Dad are cuffed and chained together and man, Graham is a dick too.
Great epi tonight. I noticed in some of the comments that there are worries of some sharks a-circling, ready for a death defying leap over them, but I'm withholding judgement until I get more backstory.

OK - 24 hours has gone by and this is the 3rd comment left here. Last year at this time there were 64 comments by now. My feelings are this.... I love the show and want to love it. The whole father/ brother/ Jack storyline is hard to feel good about. It is just a little too ridiculous. Don't get me wrong , I plan my whole night around watching 24, I'm just saying there doesn't seem to be as much enthusiasm this year among us. Is it because of the story line, or is everyone watching Heroes. I hope that's not the reality, but definitely weigh in your thoughts on this. Or at least, comment about the #@*&en show....like you used to!
I didn't watch Chloe on Leno, but her appearance on Conan last year was superb. As to the father/brother / Jack storyline, I read many blog posts everywhere that complain about this supposedly star wars parody plot. But personally, I'm OK with this. If you remember the first season, it was a lot about Kim, Jack's wife, and Jack's ex-girl friend Nina Myers. The soap opera aspect of the show has been right there since the beginning of the show. You can't deny the deep feeling that alll those relationships caused at the end of the first season. That makes Jack Baur different from James Bond. It's true it feels like the same old storyline, but I trust that the writers of the show will come up with enough twits to more than make up for it. Will see..
24 is turning into a soap...
24 is no turning into a soap. It always has been. It always has been a mixture of action, thriller, drama and soap. I'm glad the writers still remember and keep that aspect. It gives the characters a real touch. I love that Jack finally gets a back story. So far it's great and I hope to get great scenes between him and his dad next week! =)
Yeah I'm noticing a definite lack of commentage going on too. I wonder if it's due to declining interest in the show or does my site just suck :)
24 has always had soap opera elements to it, mixed in with the blood and body counts. I don't think it's fair to say it's "turning into one" only in season 6 when it's always been there. Hello Chase's baby that Chloe was forced to look after in CTU? Jack a Druggie? So suddenly the show is giving us a back story with his father and brother and that makes people think 'soap opera'?
Well dye my hair blue and plop me on the couch for my 'story' every Monday night then :)
Can anyone tell me about the preview of next week's episode? My kids apparently hijacked the TiVo on Monday night (when I was out), so I had to watch the latest episode on fox.com. No preview of next week there, though. Thanks!
Nope, Michelle, we don't discuss previews here.
Plan your day around 24? I plan my WEEK around it! Child services would take my kids if you heard what I say to them if they're not in bed by 9PM Mondays. I threaten them with no less than a thigh-shootin' if they don't BE QUIET! Mommy's show's on!
Melia, your website is as great as always. But I admit I am a teeny bit bored. I consider this the second "exposition" episode in a row, which is a little boring. But I LOVE Graem, how masterfully he turned from bumbling doofus to STONE COLD bastard in an instant. Awesome acting. Brrrrrrr.
The body count's taking a toll on me. I miss Michelle. I miss Tony. I miss Edgar. I miss Nina! Maybe we need more eye candy (Nadia's a hottie, but Curtis was the last of the red-hot CTUers.) I dunno. now I'm just free-associating, so I'd better stop. I just know that need my jaw to drop at least once next week, as it did when the bomb went off 3 weeks ago.
Every episode iwatch I say to myself-they cannot top this one-however they keep on surprising me-great episode.
As to the lack of commentage on this site, here's my theory: for one thing, the first four hours were so incready inetnse, yet strangely enough, not much has been revealed as to the motive of the terrorists. For example, we still don't know much about Fayet and what he want to accomplish. If a terrosit like him goes all the way to detonating a nuclear bomb in a major city like LA, he's got to have some ridiculous demand like complete withdraw of the US army from the midddle east or something like that. But he hasn't made such a demand. Which leads me to believe there's someting deeper going on, probably involving Jack's brother and his drinking buddies. But we simply don't know what's really going on at this point. That said, I think there's still a bunch of things that we can discuss such as ..
- what is exactly the role of Assad?
- who would be the mole this time?
- can Karen Hays survive at all?
- what about Audrey and her dad?
- will Kim join the party?
- will the previous criminal president be tortured by Jack somehow?
What's your guess?
Hi again,
First post didn't seem to take, so I'll try again.
I've been a "lurker" for some time now - getting my between-episodes, post-airing adrenaline rush by re-reading Melia's extraordinary re-caps (way to go Melia!!!). I try to read them early enough in the day so that they don't keep me awake at night...
That being said, I have been on Valium since last season's finale to keep me going until this season's premiere. But somehow, this season is not the same. Like the writers of The West Wing have taken over, or something. Too much handwringing. For a second I thought they'd be rectifying, with Curtis' awesomely horrific demise. But no... I read somewhere they wanted to do "something different". Why does everyone seem so compelled to fix what isn't broke?????
Another 24 addict fan friend hit the nail on the head: there's a lack of urgency in this season. In every other season, the clock ticking down meant seconds from total anihilating disaster. This season seems more of a leisurely stroll through the skeleton closet. I mean, when you start thinking about all the plot implausabilities instead of being unable to breath from excitement, you know there's something wrong. Right?
Incidentally, Keifer lives in my neck of the woods so I see him on occasion. I can personally attest to the fact that he IS the sexiest man alife.
i just wanted to add to how ridiculous the three are.. that's jack, his brother and father... like baby bear, mummy bear and daddy bear when they walk out of the building!!!! surely fox go into more depth that this when casting???? i mean, clever twist for jacks brother, but the father? waiting for something as HUGE as seeing this guy and he hasnt even got the same nose!! this is a joke, im very annoyed, but ah well... i'll continue watching (with a frown!)
