    "Bring her back in." 1pm-2pm

Welcome to 24, now with more angst!

I didn't realize it at the time, but as soon as Buchanan began to tell Jack that his brother is dead it hit me that Jack will believe he caused it. As if he needed more trauma.

He took it rather well though. Get the info. Process the info. Get back to work. Deal with it later.

Starting with Jack on route to the ambush site. Chloe, distraught, begins to mess up as she tries to access street cams and follow McCarthy. Milo notices and debates whether he should pull her off.

Meanwhile, Bill has to break the news about Graem to Jack. Like I said, I was more upset about Jack having to believe he did it than Jack seemed to be. He took in the info and moved on. Me, I'm still dwelling.

Milo decides to pull Chloe and immediately gets the right cam and tracks McCarthy who is speeding off and awaiting a call from Fayed. Soon, the beating thrum of helicopter blades beat overhead and he notices the chopper Jack's in above their car. After a bit of a chase, the car drives under an overpass and stops. McCarthy jacks a small truck while Jack has the chopper brought down on top of some semis.

As McCarthy is hotwiring the truck, Morris tries to appeal to Rita (McCarthy's chippie) and her better nature, saying CTU doesn't know of her existence and the lives of thousands of people rests on her because of Fayed's bombs. He pleas with her to uncuff him but she hesitates.

McCarthy comes back and they pile in the truck and take off. Rita accuses McCarthy of keeping the Big Deal from her, not telling her it's about the bomb. He tells her it's not about the bombs - it's about 7 million dollars. That was stupid.

Jack arrives on scene but too late. All he finds is the shattered glass from the truck McCarthy stole. Without knowing what kind of car they stole, CTU is stuck.

Fayed calls McCarthy and gives him an address. After he and Rita locate it via GPS, Rita shiftily looks at Morris, leading the audience to believe she's going to help him. She shoots McCarthy, dumps the body and Morris is euphoric. But the silly bint is a greedy bitch. She's going to turn over Morris and keep the 7 million. Apparently she plans a big shopping spree.

At the White House, we get to witness a hissy fit such as we haven't seen since the days of Logan. Palmer tries to placate Lennox after rejecting his plan but Lennox goes off to pout in his office after Palmer is told that Assad has arrived. Why do men always sweep stuff off a table when they're pissed off? I've tried it myself and it's less than satisfying.

Anyway, Lennox unloads his frustration on his lackey, Reed. He whinges about having no influence in this administration. Reed tries to build his ego back up but to no avail. Lennox refuses to go along with Palmer's decision and orders Reed to go draft his letter of resignation.

Defeated, Reed leaves and calls some guy named Carson and lets him know about Lennox's resignation decision. Apparently there is another big plan in the works we're not meant to know about but it seems to hinge on Lennox staying in office and Reed staying in position.

At CTU, Marilyn Bauer and her son Josh arrive and Bill breaks the news of Graem's death. She takes it pretty well really. She did assume Jack caused it though. I smell bitterness! Marilyn then breaks the news to Josh and Bill is called away by Jack who has found McCarthy's body.

Jack finds McCarthy's cell phone and uploads the data to CTU. They believe he received a call from Fayed on it.

Rita and Morris arrive at Fayed's House of Torture and Fayed regards Rita suspiciously. She tries to play it off as though McCarthy's waiting on her but Fayed tells her she won't get the money until Morris does what he's told. Morris heroically refuses. He's scared as hell though. His shaky voice gives that away even as he refuses to program the detonator thingies. He's beaten with a baseball bat, shoved head first in a full bath to the point of drowning, and then drilled. As in, with a drill. In the freakin' shoulder. Blood spatters everywhere and Morris collapses in a heap.

At CTU, Milo is having problems with the cell phone trace. Chloe steps up and gets the job done. Good on her. She gets the address of the apartment complex Fayed is holed up in. No apartment number but the building is close enough. Milo receives praise for his work on the trace but he is a good boy and makes sure Bill knows Chloe did it. "If you think she's ready, bring her back in." Bill says. Yay!

Showdown at the White House. Assad and Palmer face off. Assad isn't willing to begin his peace process on Palmer's terms, which include him going on TV and appealing to the Muslim community for info on Fayed. But Assad doesn't want to do it that way. Appearance is everything to him. But Palmer is having none of it. He doesn't care about Assad's agenda.

Jack and field teams have surrounded Fayed's building but there's too many apartments to go room to room so Jack initiates a fire alarm to clear the place. But this only alerts Fayed to the fact the CTU knows where they are and he steps up Morris' torture. Here's where he begins to drill. I had to look away.

Again at the White House, Lennox reads a memo stating that Assad will be appearing on TV. Reed comes in and says he does not have the letter of resignation. He begins to wonder aloud about the possibility of a climate change in which Lennox's agenda could move forward if the Veep was in office. Lennox says he has no grounds to push for Palmer's removal. Reed says something a little more immediate would be necessary... Draw your own conclusions from that. But he backs off that train of thought when he sees Lennox might not be conducive to it.

Back at the apartment building, CTU finally narrows down which apartment Fayed is in and Jack leads the assault on it. Unfortunately it's a little late as Morris has had time to activate the one suitcase nuke Fayed has with him. Just as Morris is about to be shot, Jack breaks in and shoots up the baddies. But Fayed is not amongst the dead. The good news for Chloe though is that Morris is alive. Unconscious and with a few more holes in him, but alive. I love how Jack made sure she knew that. Not about the holes though :)

As Jack searches for Fayed he discovers a bit of a problem in the bathroom. Fayed left the nuke behind, and it's armed.

Chloe begins to walk Jack through disarming the nuke. A field agent tells Jack that Fayed escaped through the sewer tunnels and took off in a nearby helicopter.

Can I just say I hate Disarm the Bomb sequences? They make my tummy hurt.

But Jack disarms it in time and after some reallyquitesexy panting (sorry, Kieferbreath does that to me) he lets the field agents know the bomb is disarmed and it's 'over.'

"No it's not." says Morris. He informs Jack that the device Fayed forced him to activate gives him the ability to detonate the 3 remaining nukes at any time. And if the device is not in the apartment, then Fayed still has it. Disgusted, Jack informs CTU. Come on Jack, not everyone's as tough as you. I think Morris, a data analyst of all things, withstood a goodly amount of torture there before he finally caved. Don't get tetchy with him.

At the White House, Lennox sees the flash memo about the info on Fayed and believes the situation is dire. He has Reed tear up his letter of resignation, and tells him he would be amenable to the earlier discussion about Palmer. Reed tells him he will find a secure location to discuss it.

    Egads.

LOL!! Kiefer breath. Seriously, nothing like it.

Chloe totally rocked in this ep, and the next one. As she always does.

How about that new President Palmer? Wouldn't everyone agree for a change he's been showing a lot more sac.., excuse me, resolve than he usally does? He pretty much laid it on the line for Assad. C'mon folks - give him some love.

But could any one President have less support than what we see going on this season? I mean give me a break Lennox is ready to pick up his toys and go home because he can't have his way through the President?! Does that mean he calls up Karen Hayes to ensure she gets her job back, since he's not man enough to do the job he signed up for? What a ma'roon!

Keep up the great work Ms Melia :)
