    "Citadel is down." 4pm-5pm

Killing two Palmers on this show would just be wrong. I'm pretty sure Wayne will live though. Good stuff tonight guys :) Nervous tension, paranoia, angry tension, a furry man talking to himself - we got it all tonight :)

    So without further ado...

We jump right in with Gredenko and Fayed talk about setting up a payload delivery. Gredenko dislikes dealing with Fayed - obviously prejudiced. Seems Gredenko's interested in exacerbating the difficulties between the America and the Middle East.

At the White House, Palmer meets with an ambassador and Assad. There is definite tension between the ambassador and Assad. Palmer fills in the ambassador with the reasons behind Assad's presence in the bunker with Palmer. Apparently he didn't know about the other three nukes. Palmer wants the ambassador to get his Prime Minister to deliver a speech backing Assad's speech directly after he's done. Palmer has to resort to military threats to get the ambassador to do this.

At CTU, Bill is frustrated that the safe house was empty. Techs found some kind router and Morris was trying to pull data from it bu having no luck. Is it me or was he a little slurry? Chloe gave him a look though. Before Morris could rant a little more, Jack called in and gave Bill a quick rundown on what went down at his location. He told him his father was involved and that he might have another lead in Charles Logan. Bill is puzzled but Jack has no time to get into detail. Jack is also rightfully pissed off that Logan is tucked away in a cozy little safehouse of some kind because he brokered a deal that got him out of hot water for his involvement in David Palmer's assassination. He grrr-arrghs a bit while Bill tells him a chopper is on the way to take him to Logan's location.

Meanwhile Jack has met back with Marilyn and Josh. He tells them Phillip escaped and that he's sending them back to CTU where they'll be safe (amazing he still finds CTU safe after its been blown up and poisoned and they usually have moles coming out of the ductwork but ok.) He gently places his hand on Marilyn's cheek as she thanks him for saving Josh. He gives a little half-smile that makes me all warm and fuzzy before he packs them off to mole-central.

Back at the bunker, Reed escorts his "contact" in past security. As they walk away from security, Reed tells his guy, Carson, that Lennox was going to give the game away. Carson is ticked off as they go into the pipe room and find Lennox trying to get out of his duct tape. His guy wants to off Lennox and be done with it but Reed talks him out of it. He believes Lennox will fall in line and keep his trap shut once the Veep is in office. He then distracts the guy by telling him to start assembling his device thingie since it will take 25-30 minutes and the Prez and Assad are giving their speech in about that time frame. He says their best shot of pulling this off is if they frame Assad for the assassination and that he and Palmer need to be together for it to happen. I guess so it looks like a suicide bombing.

Reed goes off to try and pull a 9 to 5 by pretending Tom is in various places around the bunker dong his job.

Chloe and Morris have a little chat about him and his AA sponsor. Morris is tetchy about it and goes of to swap a server port. Nadia is irked that Morris isn't at his station and once again Chloe covers for him. But after they have a little exchange, Chloe goes off to call Morris' sponsor herself. But she has to leave a voicemail (and when she gave her number, guess what number she gave the sponsor? Yep, 310-597-3781.)

And now Jack has arrive to speak to Furry Logan about Gredenko. Logan tells Jack he's a changed man. He's had time to think about what he did. Jack thinks Logan wants a pardon but Logan says he'll give the info freely. But the info he has on a liaison in the Russian Consulate Gredenko uses named Markov (will check spelling later) can only be gotten via back channels - in other words, Jack will have to go through Logan to get the info he needs. Logan tells Jack Markov was involved in the Palmer assassination and that he can talk to Markov about Gredenko because Markov knows Logan didn't give him up. Sound convoluted to you? I'm a little lost and I'm blogging this as I watch (Hurray for Tivo!)

Jack calls Palmer and tells him what Logan has offered. He needs an executive order form the President granting him temporary furlough to go talk to Markov. Palmer is visibly upset about this plan, after all, Logan helped plan his brother's death. Wayne speaks to Logan through clenched teeth and then decides to grant the furlough. It seems like Logan wants redemption for his crimes. But he's still saccharine and sappy. I don't trust him.

Meanwhile, Gredenko arrives at an airport to take a look at a 'drone.' Presumably we'll learn more about this later.

At CTU, Bill briefs everyone on the plan for going into the consulate. Bill tries to hand off Morris' tasks to Chloe but Morris makes an impassioned plea to stay on the job and Bill decides to let him despite Nadia's objection.

Chloe continues to cover for Morris and man oh man this is just not going to end well. I think Chloe's going to end up in big trouble for not letting her inner anal-geek-girl out when it comes to Morris.

Over at Logan's dude ranch, Charles has a quiet moment with his reflection. "I'm smart, I'm furry, and gosh-darnit, people like me!" Jack gets a last minute briefing from Buchanan before they head to the consulate (and excuse the fangirl squee, but SQUEE doesn't that boy look good in a suit! Guess jeans and Docs don't cut it in an Embassy.)

Anyway, As Jack learns more about career-diplomat, Markov, he thumbs through Logan's bible where he has highlighted a bit of text - the same bit of text Logan was just saying to himself in the mirror. Something about mud and a rock. I don't know, I'm not bible-y. Is this suspicious? Is Logan planning something and Jack is starting to cop on to it? We'll see.

A phone rings. It's Morris' sponsor returning Chloe's call. Only she isn't his sponsor anymore and hasn't been for three years. Chloe turns to Morris' station only to find him gone. After checking various places, she deduces he's in the loo and storms on in, catching him in a stall and confronts him. But he tells Chloe he has a new sponsor now, and that she can check if she wants. Chloe is brought up short by the evidence that points to the fact that she's being to paranoid, and she leaves him alone with a breathless apology.

After she leaves, Morris pulls out his bottle of whiskey, contemplates it, and dumps it down the drain. The question is, was he about to drink again in the stall? Or did he have a swig before Chloe stormed in? I want to believe he didn't get a chance to and he's a good boy for dumping it out.

At Palmer's Bunker, Wayne signs Logan's furlough order and asks for Lennox. But Lennox is still trussed up (ok I'll be a little nicer towards Lennox, but I still think he has weasel parts) with Carson and Reed. Carson cleans a cut on Lennox's head and asks him if he was playing him from the beginning or if he had a change of heart. Lennox says, "I was against you from the start." This pisses off Reed who slaps the duct tape back on his mouth and goes to watch Carson finish preparing the bomb using highlighters and a digital recorder. As he finishes, Carson tells Reed that the device has a 10 foot kill radius and that Palmer needs to be inside of that for this to work. Reed will be doing the actual setting off of the bomb. Oh dear.

Reed is the only one who can get close to the speech podiu so he sets off on his mission. After a little paranoid walk down the hall where he feels everyone's eyes on him, he accomplishes his task of hiding the recorder under the podium. Palmer and Assad walk in. Palmer takes Reed aside and asks about Lennox and Reed assures the President Lennox will be present for the speech.

As Assad stands behind the podium prepping as Palmer looks on, Reed punches in the code (624 for you detail-oriented peeps) to trigger the bomb. But some goops begins leaking from it and Assad, being the expert bomber that he is notices the dripping ooze, sees the bomb and rushes straight towards the President yelling, "BOMB!" he crashes into Palmer and they both go down as the bomb explodes.

As Jack and Logan prepare to leave for the consulate and Fayed heads off to wherever he's going, Secret Service searches through the rubble for the President. They find Assad amongst the damaged and they find Palmer bloodied and unconscious. "Citadel is down. I repeat, Citadel is down. Send a medical team."

    Hi Melia,
thanks for your great blog! I looked up the bible passage that Logan cites in front of the mirror. It is Psalm 40. Interestingly he cites another bible translation than the one Jack holds in his hands. For me it looks like the Logan will escape from the embassy somehow. Maybe he refers to his own freedom as the "rock" his feet are set on (two convertits in one season is just too much, Assad, Logan, Lennox? ...). The Morris storyline has been so much emphasized this episode that i strongly believe that he will be involved in loosing Logan.

What I do not fully understand is this: Does the public know about the other nukes? The possibility was mentioned on the TV, but the ambassador did not know about it. Did Palmer want Assad to tell the American public that there is still a threat of nuclear attacks pending? If not, Assad's appell seems a bit odd.

I really like Palmer in this season. He reminds me of Buchanan in his way of percieving everything around him. When Assad warned him him of people going after him, Palmer got Lennox involved and asked for his counsel... and succeeded. If Palmer survived he will probably suspect Lennox, though.

I agree we can't off two President Palmers, so he'll probably live. Will Assad? Wayne got back into my good graces this ep; a little anyway. He was indeed showing strength and keen perception; I enjoyed watching him. He still did the annoing bobblehead, though.
As for Morris, I'm not sure he'll tie in with Logan, but they're beating us over the head with something regarding him. Hmmm....we haven't had a good suicide lately; my money's on that, or else he'll be a super-duper hero of the day, and truly earn Chloe's love and respect.
I like how the Reed/Lennox thing is playing out...can't see where it's going.
Logan: I couln't take my eyes off him, he seemed...compelling, or at least more than he's ever been until now. I can't help feeling that he is what he seems, and he's not planning to escape. But I don't think he'll get his "redemption" either, which would likely include a hoped-for reunion with Martha.
As for SQUEE, you betcha Jack looks great in a suit! And for swoon factor, I'm hoping we'll see Aaron this season. He's such a hero. Sigh.
Good ep; I'm still having a great ride, and I'm glad we didn't dwell too much on "the business" of Jack's father. I agree with you, Melia, that it's just too hard to grasp creating this sort of pandemonium over a company.

Hi Melia! Logan wasn't reciting the same bible quote that he had highlighted. He'd highlighted: "He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand." But he said: "He brought me out of a horrible pit, set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings."

I wonder if it means antything, that the texts WERE different.

    Hello all
all 5 of you! I am so sorry that the comment/enthusiasm for this blog has fallen. I do think Melia does a great job. I waited to write my feelings, because I didn't understand them myself. Something is lacking in this seasons story line - either it is too familiar, too many familiar characters, or the story is just lame. It definitely lacks the excitement. I've chosen 24 each week over Heroes and then I watch Heroes on the NBC website. I'm having a tough decision to watch 24 live tonite! Judging from the lack of comments to this blog - I have a feeling I'm not the only one.
Keifer get hold of your TV series, quickly!

Yeah my traffic has dropped a bit. It's not too bad though. I still get a big chunk, especially after the show has aired which to me is amazing because I don't update much when the show is off the air.

People just aren't commenting like they used to which is a shame really. The comments are why I keep recapping. I love reading what everyone else thought of the show.
