"How could I have been so stupid?" 3pm-4pm

So Jack is unburdened. A little. Except now he has to deal with Demented Daddy. See, apparently Phillip has "built up" a business, a legacy and no one's life is worth losing that. Erm, okay. I can't even remember what the business is.

Do I sound a little... off? Maybe just a little. I'm not feeling the drive, the desire - the importance of Phillip's wackiness. What the hell is the big deal about the business? Why would he murder his own son, sacrifice the other and threaten his grandson for this business? It's worth a lot of money? Big deal. Seems flimsy to me. Couple that with the "moldy old Soviet commie? (TM a frequent 24addict commenter :))" Yeah not feeling the direness.

But that doesn't mean I'm not still loving the show :)

We catch up with Jack as he tracks Milo and Marilyn as they flee from the flunkies. They hide behind some dumpsters but are quickly found out. Milo tried to give Marilyn cover fire so she could escape but she's such a girl. She couldn't run and Milo was shot in the arm.

Just before the flunkies moved in on M & M, they spoke to Phillip who told them to take Marilyn alive. So just as they're about to shoot Milo, Jack takes two of them out and forces the third guy to drop his weapon having correctly ascertained that Marilyn won't be shot.

Then Jack slams Marilyn up against a wall and rips all her clothes - oh sorry, I was thinking of a fanfic. He does slam her against a wall though and screams at her about how she is responsible for the loss of half Jack's team when she led them to the wrong house.

It's here that she tells Jack who was really on that phone and what he's threatened to do if she gave Jack the right info on Gradenko's location. Jack is visibly shaken. But he sucks it up and comes up with a plan.

Marilyn gives Jack the correct addy for Gradenko and he calls CTU to have them apprehend him. He tells Bill he won't be a part of the takedown crew. He has a personal mission.

Back at CTU, Morris is wigging. He's developing a major inferiority complex especially after he hears how brave Milo was. He leaves for a walk while Chloe covers for him before they Gredenko (Yes I know I've been spelling it wrong all this time, according to Jack's txt msg. I blame The Police.) Morris heads straight for the learest liquor store, buys a pint of whiskey and some altoids (they're curiously strong!) and heads for the alley where he gulps down most of the bottle. He then promptly throws it up. You know, I can deal with knives in kneecaps, drill bits in shoulders, but vomit just gives me the heebies. *shudder* Hate it when they show that.

As Jack, Marilyn and the flunkey setup a call to Phillip, Tom Lennox at the White House is meeting with Reed again. He gives him the President's itinerary but is still leery of the whole thing. He's afraid it will be traced to him. But Reed assures him that they're going to make it look like Assad did it. Lovely.

Back to Jack. He makes the flunkey call Phillip and tell him he has captured Marilyn and that Jack is dead. Phillip cringes but says it had to be done. The flunkey tells Phillip that Marilyn won't give up Gredenko's location until she sees her son. A little bit of back and forth between them and she doesn't cave. Finally, Phillip tells her what hotel he and Josh are staying in.

As Jack makes his way to the hotel with those two in tow, Morris returns to CTU after a frantic call from Chloe. She needs him back at his station because they're about to initiate the raid on Gredenko's safe house. But when he comes back he stops in to see Milo who's getting patched up. He tells Milo he doesn't have to downplay his heroics to make him feel better. Milo, confused, says, "Ok." Yeah, Morris is losing it. Chloe can smell the alcohol on him and she berates him for it. We learn that Morris is a recovering alcoholic. But he convinces Chloe not to inform Buchanan of his slip and that he spat out the drink. Stupidly and out of character for Chloe, she agrees.

Jack arrives at the hotel and helps Marilyn into a bulletproof vest. It's kind of a tender moment actually. Yeah, there was some heat there once upon a time. They head up to Phillip's room.

At the White House, Lennox and Reed meet one more time after Lennox helped Palmer with Assad's speech because Reed is waiting for Lennox to authorize their "man's" security clearance. Lennox tells Reed to go meet the guy. As soon as he leaves, Lennox calls security. As he leaves to meet security, he opens the door and Reed knocks Lennox in the head with a flashlight (yay!) because he realized Lennox was about to turn him in. He knocks him out again (yay!) and cancels the meet with security.

At CTU, they raid Gredenko's house and find... nothing. No sign of the man. At the hotel, Marilyn and Jack find... nothing. Phillip and Josh are nowhere to be found. But then the phone rings and it's Phillip. He directs them to look out the window across the way. They comply and see Phillip on the roof of a nearby building with a gun to Josh's head. Jack tells Phillip he's out of plays here. All he can do now is offer up all his info and demand immunity. Phillip's having none of that. So Jack offers himself in exchange for Josh. Phillip seems to go for that and Jack and Marilyn head over to that building.

Jack makes his way into a room where Phillip is waiting. Phillip makes Jack show that he's not wearing ankle holsters and in doing so, endears Jack to me even more when he slides his jeans up and reveals he's wearing sloppily tied Doc Martens :) I have a Doc Marten... thang.

I digress. Josh is released and Jack is alone with his father. As his father tries to make excuses for everything Jack cuts right through the bullshit. "Stop lying to me!" he yells. Phillip tells Jack none of this would have happened if Jack hadn't turned his back on the family all those years ago. He tells Jack he's so much smarter than Graham ever was. Then he makes Jack get on his knees and moves behind him. Bastard's going to execute his own son??

Before Phillip can fire, Jack unloads a little.

"I want you to know... I never wanted you to feel like I had turned my back on you - that I had turned my back on the family. I just had to go my own way... Do things for myself... I was never good enough for you... I'm sorry. Anyway... I'm ready."

But the shot never fires. Phillip's done a runner. He left behind a phone though that has instrauctions to call a phone number (yep, same one as before that gets you the Nextel phone for 24, which has a full mailbox.)

Jack calls the number... It's Logan. Bah. He's all furry too. *shudder* He tells Jack they need to meet. Alone.

Tick boom. Sooooo Logan's back, Lenoox is unconscious (yay!) and Jack can be guilt-free over Graham's death (and free from scrutiny by CTU.) A very good show tonight and hey, torture-free as well so please Real Reporters, stop filling up my inbox with news alerts about how 24 was asked to tone down the torture.

Good morning, Melia. Such a wistful recap! I read two 24 blogs. Yours I count on for the detailed summary with just the right "swoon factor." But I also rely on Dave Barry's blog for the hilarity. I think you need some-a that! It's probably rude to recommend one blog on another blogger's site, but the more, the merrier, I hope. blogs.herald.com/dave_barrys_blog/24/index.html
In the comments section, a guy named Steve does a terrific, snarky recap.
But anyway, I know how you feel. But why are you happy about Lennox being KOed? He's had a change of heart! He's like the Lynn Kreske of this season! That reminds me, I'd love to see Novick again.
Also, you seem indifferent to Logan's return. What a great actor, I'm glad to see the creepy weenie back on the canvas.
Cheer up, Melia! Maybe we'll see Jean Smart again!

Wistful? Hmm that wasn't my intent. I guess I'm still just not quite feeling the story of Jack's dad. I think I needed some more backstory on why the "family biz" is so important to Phillip that he'd go to such horrible lengths to protect it. I' don't feel that.

But I was still happy with last night's ep :) Great Kiefery acting and all. As for Lennox knockout, I enjoyed it because the little weasel deserved it. Glad he had a change of heart and all, but I'm still looking on him in disgust for his juvenile hissy last week.

As for Logan.. I dunno. I really didn't like his character last season. So wishy-washy and 'tell me what to do mysteriousvoiceonthephone because I am a whiny jerk.' He just grated on the old nerve you know? So having him back isn't that appealing to me. Now, Martha on the other hand. Can't wait to see her.

I love Dave Barry's blog party, too, but the only problem is that I'm living in the west coast and it's out of question to visit the site until the show is over in the west coast time. It would be nice if someone could host a west coast version of the 24 real time blog party..

by the way, how is it possible for an old guy like Jack's dad to disappear so quickly? Did he run like one of those crazy terminater robots or something? Maybe he's indeed an evil terminator sent back from the future.

Wrong question. The stairways were not that far away. If Jack had not decided to call Logan, he would've catched him on the way down. I guess it's a question if he wanted to catch him or not, you know?

Jack knows his father can't help him right now. Logan's invitation seems a lot more interesting, I guess.

Yvonne, thank you for the deep thought for my silly remark. Come to think of it, Jack didn't call for backup, which he should have, while Jack's dad probably had to assume Jack had called for backup, thereaby making him (jack's dad) feeling urged to leave as soon as possible. In any case, the "main thread" is that jack's dad indeed lead jack to logan despie all those theatricals.
