"Please... You have to help." 5pm - 6pm

This episode almost made me like Lennox. I'm reserving judgement until I find out how he handles himself with the Veep, but I will say I dug him a little this time. I was pleased with tonight's show. I hope you guys were too. I know my comments aren't as happening as they used to be this season, but I appreciate those of you who keep coming back to read some chick in Nebraska's recap of the show :)

I also want to say to whomever clicked the '24 gear' banner and bought over $4000 worth of stuff, I love you. Did you guys know they have a friggin' cool CTU Special Ops watch in there? Makes me wish I was rich.

Enough pimping, on with the show.

First up, Palmer is wheeled into a med room looking pretty bloody.

Jack and Logan head for the Russian Consulate. Jack is hostile towards Logan. Logan accepts Jack's ire. Logan attempts to make conversation by telling Jack he knows what it's like to be locked away from the world. He gets pretty philosophical. Jack just stares straight ahead until Buchanan calls him. He's calling to give Jack the news about the attempt on Palmer's life. He tells Jack it "looks" like Assad was responsible - and that Assad is dead.

At the White House, doctors work at trying to remove shrapnel from Palmer, Reed looks on. Reed is approached by someone and told he and Lennox are needed in a conference call with the Veep to discuss who's in charge. Reed says Lennox is unavailable and that Reed is covering for him. In the call, the Veep learns he's now in charge of things. The Veep says he will be landing soon (he's been in the air this whole time btw) and when he arrives, he will want a full briefing from Tom Lennox.

Under mounting pressure from, ohhh, everyone in the bunker looking for Lennox, Reed goes back to the pipe room where Lennox is trussed up and has an argument on whether to kill him or not with Carson the bomb guy. Reed is against killing Lennox. He believes Lennox is weasely enough to fall in line. Carson wants to off him and make it look like a suicide which, given their situation, is actually the smarter play. But we all know how dumb government dweebs are. Reed would rather take a chance on Lennox.

He has his little, um, heart to heart with Lennox and it sort of looks like Reed has made his case with Lennox and that he'll play along. Reed tells him that Carson used an identical bomb signature to that used by Assad's organization and no one will know who really did it. He says the Veeps is now in charge and Lennox's agenda will sail right through and be implemented.

Sensing that he has convinced Lennox to play along, he cuts him loose. They enter the hall and run into Secret Service who have been looking for Lennox. The SS tells Lennox everyone's been looking for him. Lennox straightens his tie, and with a glance at Reed, he steps over to them and rats 'em out. It was bloody brilliant :) and then his heart grew three sizes that day. OK Lennox won some brownie points with me. But I still think he's whiny. And how about that hilarious smirk he gave Reed as he was being cuffed? Priceless!

Meanwhile the Vice-President lands and has a chat with Bill about Logan's "furlough." The VP is not happy about Logan is out.

At the Consulate, Logan convinces Jack to let him speak to the ambassador alone. He Jack is unhappy about this but can see no way to be in the room with them and still get the guy to talk. So Logan meets up with Markov and aks him to give up Gredenko. He won't do it. Logan plays his blackmail card letting Markov know he will give him up to Moscow regarding the nerve gas from last season. But Markov won't budge. The only thing he will concede is that he will make some calls.

Logan and Jack leave, but Logan knows Markov is lying and he tells Jack so. As they drive away, Markov calls Gredenko to tell him about Logan's visit. This agitates Gredenko but Markov assures him that by the time the government figures anything out, it will be too late. As Jack leaves, he tells the limo driver to pull over when they're out of sight of the guards. He then calls Chloe and tells her to disrupt power to the Consulate - under the radar. Hearing all of this, Logan reminds Jack that he just spent two years in prison in China enduring torture for pretty much the same thing. Jack just ignores everything Logan's blathering about and looks around, setting up his moves.

Now we check in on Karen as she waits at Andrews for her flight to L.A. She's watching the news on her phone (I wish I had a cool phone like that) when Bill calls her to tell he about the attempt on Palmer's life. She realizes she has to go back to the Bunker and do what she can to help.

Arriving at the bunker is th VP. As he walks in he chats with his assistant about going over Lennox's plan. She's skeptical about pushing it through so soon since Palmer rejected it. But he believes it's needed now more than ever. He's then informed about Lennox's unfortunate incarceration.

Speaking of Reed, he's interrogated by Secret Service. They're not very willing to believe his side of the story. There's quite a lot of circumstantial against him. When the Vice-President comes in, even he doesn't believe Lennox. They're all too willing to believe Assad is guilty. They're, trigger-happy. They're dying to pin it on him and Lennox is flabbergasted. It's clever actually, because at this moment, Lennox is realizing the far-reaching implications of his own plan that does pretty much the same thing to the entire Muslim community that is happening to the innocent Assad. Kind of a karmic slap in the face for him.

The Veep gives Lennox an ultimatum: either stick to his 'Assad is innocent' line and go through a trial and everything for his role in the assassination attempt, or the VP will clear him of all charges and allow Lennox to work on getting his proposal through. All he has to do is ignore Assad's innocence. He did the right thing once... Will he do it again?

Back at the consulate, we learn that Jack speaks a bit of Russian. There is no end to his sexiness. Seriously. Ever see 'A Fish Called Wanda' when John Cleese starts speaking Russian and Jamie Lee Curtis gets all hot and bothered? That's what I'm talking about here.

But I digress. With Chloe's help, Jack makes his way to Markov but before he can get any answers, the power comes back and the game is up. He locks himself in with Markov and a standoff is in the making.

And we head back to the bunker to check in with Vice-President Daniels. He's being pummeled left and right with bad news. Buchanan informs him about Jack's situation. His assistant tells him Karen Hayes is withdrawing her resignation and top cap it of, Russian President Subarov is calling to tell Daniels to make Jack stand down.

Unfortunately for Markov, Jack's not going anywhere and he's feeling punchy. Literally. Under... duress, Markov slips up and tells Jack he hasn't spoken to Gredenko since he came to the states. Dumbass. Jack looks at him and says, "I never said he was in the United States." HA! So busted.

Except, he's not. Oh Jack gets his intel. After cutting off a finger and holding a gun to Markov's head, Markov tells Jack what he knows. Gredenko is in the Mojave Desert getting ready to launch drones loaded with the nukes. They'll be operational in two hours.

"Son of a bitch." POW! Jack punches Markov one more time for good measure and heads for the door - except Russian security decides to blow it just then and Jack is thrown back by the blast and rendered unconscious. He's captured.

As Daniels speaks to the nation, Morris cracks consulate code and discovers that the consulate is now holding Jack. Buchanan authorizes special ops to draw up a plan to take the consulate by force. He wants to have it ready for Daniels to give the ok and hopefully rescue Jack.

Over at the Consulate, Jack comes around and tries to appeal to his guard. He tells him what he knows. He tells him that he knows the guard is aware of Markov's connection to Gredenko. All he wants the guard to do is call CTU with the intel. The guard does it. He knows Jack isn't lying.

As the guard goes away to make the call, he's put through to Bill. But before he can talk to him, he's shot and killed by... not Markov. I actually don't know who shot him. Obviously, someone in the consulate security or another consul guy but I didn't recognize him. This person must be working with Markov as well. Either way, Jack's desperate attempt to get the intel to Buchanan fails. And we have to wait 'til next week to find out what happens next.

I don’t like what’s going down with Assad at all and now he’s dead to boot. Ya just know somewhere along the way President Palmer is going to recuperate so he can actually clarify Assad’s actions.

How about the look on Reed and stooge Carson’s faces when Lennox ratted them out -- SWEET! But during the interrogation, I mean the security dude wasn’t even asking Lennox questions like what about that bunker on your forehead and the scrape across the side of his mouth – be for real. Now he’s a co-conspirator? You’re right Melia, Weasely has quite a decision on his hands.

Is it just me or is it totally hilarious every time Logan ends up talking to himself? In the limo, I was so surprised to see Jack let down his guard and share info with Logan… I mean why did he have to know about President Palmer? NOT!

Does anyone else get the feeling from the look on VP Daniel’s face he’s already figuring out some ways to delay/hinder Karen Hayes re-entry? Ya just know it.

    Ben, you are so right!

Ms Melia, your writing is just as hip and fresh as the first time I came upon this site over a year ago… Keep doing what you do… I figure the drop off is because at this point the ‘JTS’ innuendo’s are little too much in the face now and some folks can’t separate a good story being told from all of the background shenanigans that just don’t click… They’re probably adhering to what my mama always used to say, if you can’t say anything good, then don’t say anything at all :).
